The Accounting Services Staff Accountant is responsible for the
compilation of monthly financial statements, related schedules, and
supplementary information for various clients as assigned. The
Accounting Services Staff Accountant is an in-office position based
in the Topeka office and can be performed remotely after training
is completed, approximately 4 - 6 months after hire date.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Compilation of monthly financial statements, which include balance
sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and various
supplementary schedules as required.
Reconcile bank statements, prepare adjusting journal entries,
process accounts payable and receivable, sales tax filings, and
post to the general ledger.
Maintain client's depreciation schedules, recording changes in
property and equipment and calculating depreciation and
Research general ledger account issues, to include accounts
payable, accounts receivable, payroll, intercompany transfers,
Consult with the client or the client's bookkeeper regarding
matters of general ledger account coding classification.
Gathering information for financial and income tax projections
including quarterly and year-end tax packets.
Monitor client adherence to compliance related deadlines such as
sales tax, payroll tax, income tax payments, personal property
filings, and real estate taxes.
Foster a positive working environment that promotes team work
within the Accounting Services Department and other departments
including Tax, Payroll, and Accounts Payable.
Ability to work the hours necessary to meet deadlines for work
Meet all deadlines for monthly compilations, government reporting
and tax services.
Occasional same day or out of town travel with overnight stay for
meetings or seminars.
In-office work during training, due to the interaction necessary
between departments and trainer. Amount of time will vary depending
on individual's experience and abilities.
Individuals at this level normally have a Bachelor's degree with a
major in Accounting, or other related business field, or equivalent
Zero to two years' experience with accounting services.
Strong technical knowledge and skills.
Strong interpersonal/relationship building skills and project/team
CPA licensed or CPA-eligible.
Experience with various accounting software, such as QuickBooks,
Restaurant365, or Dynamics365.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
