Position: Books Program Editor

Overview:

Advisors Excel is looking for an organized, detail-orientated Editor to join our Books Program team. As part of our team, you will have the incredible opportunity to help turn our advisors into authors. The Books Program Editor will focus on providing a polished final product, ensuring that all written content reflects the highest standards for accuracy and is free of errors related to spelling, grammar, punctuation and style.

What you'll do:

• 
  
• Thoroughly proof and edit book manuscripts prior to distribution to ensure accuracy and that all materials are publication-ready and free of any typos and/or grammatical errors
  
• Check text for style, readability and adherence to editorial standards and house style
  
• Rewrite text when needed to improve clarity and readability
  
• Conduct phone interviews with financial advisors when needed to help craft custom and templated content for books
  
• Make layout adjustments to interior of book in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe InDesign
  
• Work in tandem with in-house and third-party compliance personnel to revise copy as needed to maintain compliant content at all times
  
• Upload books for publication on Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing website
  
• Learn and maintain basic industry knowledge and familiarity with industry jargon
  
• Utilize our project management system to update and track tasks
  
  
  Experience you'll bring:
  
  
  • 
    
  • Three plus years' experience in a writing or editing capacity
    
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
    
  • Thorough understanding of rules of grammar and punctuation
    
  • Thorough knowledge of AP Style
    
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word)
    
  • Ability to vary tone and messaging based on medium, target audience and product
    
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions while meeting deadlines, producing high quality work and projecting a positive attitude
    
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
    
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team
    
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, self-motivated
    
  • An aptitude for technology, embrace change, and have a desire to learn
    
    
    Bonus Points:
    
    
    • 
      
    • Bachelor's Degree in journalism, marketing communications or related field
      
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator and Photoshop)
      
    • Fundamental understanding of a wide range of financial products (Ex. annuities, life insurance, various investments, etc.)
      
    • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
      
    • Confidence navigating online publishing technologies (Amazon KDP book publishing platform)
      
    • Basic understanding of current compliance regulations as related to financial services advertising
