Overall team: 8 FTE and up to 4 PT student employees

IT Directors and staff, University Deans, Directors, faculty and
staff
External Relationships:
Professional organizations, State and National working groups and
consortiums, Commercial Vendors
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the CIO, the Director of
Infrastructure serves as a member of University IT Leadership,
oversees the systems, staff, processes and responsibilities of the
team ensuring service delivery, system availability, communications
and all other requirements to support, maintain and enhance all
components and processes from data center to endpoint and beyond
for University students, faculty, staff and other community
members. Responsibilities include design, management, and
troubleshooting of: data and voice networks, central, virtual, and
remote servers, internet access, network services, and related
areas of technology support. This is a challenging and rewarding

POSITION DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES:
Team Management: Oversee employee task and resource assignment.
Facilitate portfolio management and scheduling, employee training
and development and goals and objectives. Develops key performance
indicators for measuring all areas of team performance, including
project portfolio management. Prepares budgeting recommendations
and effectively manages budgets for areas of responsibility.
Communicates with vendors, University employees, and IT staff.
Negotiates technology procurement and contracts related to areas of
responsibility.
Systems Management: Manage Windows Server, VMware, SharePoint,
Active Directory, SQL Server, Remote Desktop/VDI and other server
technology design and deployment. Manage ongoing support and system
administration. Develop and implement DR/BC plan and offsite
environment. Develop and design system architecture including
servers, desktops, software systems and other Internet connected
services and devices
Network & Telephony: Manage and set the budge for
Telecommunications Budget, and make budget suggestions for general
IT budget. Develops strategic and tactical operational plans
related to voice and data network. Directs support staff in the
both short and long-term planning, acquisition, implementation,
integration, and support of voice and data communications hardware
and software, including the performance of routine maintenance.
Research and Development: Facilitate solutions development and
implementation, gathering of requirements, research into new IT
technologies and deploy test systems (hardware and software).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in IT or related field required. Advanced degree
preferred.
Experience:
Required
Minimum three years of experience in management of information
technology solutions.
Demonstrated experience supervising or managing information
technology professionals
Knowledge and experience in project planning, implementation, and
management;
Demonstrated commitment to customer- and team-oriented
management;
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations;
Strong communication skills to communicate with different people at
different technical levels throughout the university;
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure
environment;
Preferred
Experience designing, implementing and maintaining network and
telecommunications services
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills in
a diverse technical environment
Familiarity with operational and legal compliance requirements in a
higher education environment
Familiarity with a wide variety of infrastructure technologies
including:
data and voice network hardware and software
network security protocols and best practices
ADFS, Shibboleth, or other identity management tools
LDAP, Active Directory, and other authentication, authorization,
and directory services
cloud services integration
open source software development and management
UNIX, Linux, MacOS, Windows, and other common OS platforms
server virtualization
Experience with departmental budget development and management
Formal project management training
Experience with Microsoft environments
Experience with overseeing architecture and management of a unified
communications and storage system (such as Cisco UCS and
NetApp)
Experience with overseeing and/or managing complex endpoint
environment (desktop and printing environment)
Experience with leveraging hybrid of on-premise and hosted
environment(s), including involvement in leveraging virtualization
architecture
Experience with development and implementation disaster recovery
and business continuity plans
