03/15/2026 Job Description: Class/Area: Emergency Room Psych RN
utilizing psychiatric and emergency nursing expertise in an
independent role to assess, evaluate, and manage care plans for
high-risk psychiatric patients in the emergency department.
Responsibilities: Provide primary nursing care to two high-risk
psychiatric patients in the ED, including medication
administration, restraint use, de-escalation, and coordinating
inpatient or state hospital placement. Assess all psych patients
entering the ER, determine appropriate disposition (e.g.,
inpatient, discharge, involuntary hold), and coordinate necessary
steps like placement, safety planning, and transport. Respond to
Behavioral Response Team (BRT) calls across the hospital to manage
escalated patients through de-escalation, setting limits,
restraint, and supporting bedside staff alongside police and nurse
managers. Requirements: Must have 1 year of experience in the ER
and 1 year of experience in Psychiatry (Hospital preferred).
Experience with assessments to determine disposition for psych
patients as well as experience working with violent patients.
License/Certification: KS or Compact RN, BLS. 5 Benefits of Travel
