Job Description:

accountability for the provision of surgical instruments to the
surgical team. Coordinates the care of the surgical patient with
other team members. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.

Mercy STL Main Operating Room Surgical Tech - Days Call Required
Who We Are: The Main Operating Room is a Level 1 Trauma Center and
Burn Center, providing surgical care to patients of all ages,
including pediatrics. We have 27 Operating Rooms with 7 specialty
teams, including general surgery, gynecologic surgery, urologic
surgery, robotics, ENT, orthopedic surgery, and neurosurgery. We
have 4 state-of-the-art robots at Mercy. Proposed Schedule: Three
12s, Four 10s or Five 8s (Days) We’re a Little Different Our

primary function of a Surgical Technologist in the Operating Room.
Maintains accountability for the provision of surgical instruments
to the surgical team. Coordinates the care of the surgical patient
with other team members. Maintains patient rights and
confidentiality. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner

Primary Aspects: Anticipates surgeon and operative team members
needs regarding care delivery, maintaining sterile technique and
comfort. Assist surgeon in a knowledgeable, efficient and courteous
manner. Knows procedure and/or utilizes preference cards to assure
instrument and equipment needs are available so team can stay
patient focused: participates in updating preference cards.
Inspects instruments and power equipment prior to use to assure
operational order and troubleshoots, reports, and removes faulty
instrument and equipment from service. Performs or assists in
sterile preps as needed/requested by monitoring aseptic techniques
of surgical team members at field, reporting and correcting breaks
in sterile technique immediately, and controlling location of
contaminated instruments and supplies. Qualifications: Required
Education: HS Diploma or GED. Non-certified applicants may be
considered for this position with acceptable surgical technology
experience. Preferred Education: Surgical Technology experience or
Graduate with a Degree in Surgical Technology or completion
certification from an accredited surgical technology program
preferred. Certifications: BLS through the American Heart
