Judicial Branch Benefits Job Duties: This position performs highly
confidential and complex paralegal and administrative work. Work
involves performing paralegal, administrative, and clerical duties
for the General Counsel to the Chief Justice and the Special
Counsel to the Chief Justice. - This position requires considerable
legal knowledge, initiative, discretion, and judgment in making
decisions in a variety of areas. - Work is reviewed by observation,
conferences, and results achieved. - Examples of Work Performed
Acts as representative of the
assigned organizational area with public and private agencies,
professional persons, and other officials; transmits and interprets
leader's decisions and views.Drafts, edits, and finalizes a variety
of correspondence, legal material, memoranda, legislative
testimony, and other documents.Handles legal correspondence with
guidance from General Counsel and Special Counsel. Provides support
to the Office of Special Counsel concerning legislative committees
including budget and substantive work.Surveys, develops, and
implements procedures for expediting the flow of work in assigned
area.Schedules meetings and appointments, maintains calendars, and
makes travel arrangements for assigned staff.Collects and organizes
data required for staff speaking engagements and appointments.
Assists with organizing and administering file management
system.Keeps informed of new rules, regulations, and legislation
pertinent to assigned organizational area. Handles questions,
complaints, and problems regarding procedures and functions.Reviews
mail and distributes to proper individuals indicating importance;
follows up on its disposition.
Makes administrative decisions within
the policy framework as established by the General Counsel to the
Chief Justice and the Special Counsel to the Chief Justice.Screens
and refers callers including answering various inquiries personally
if possible and provides information on the office's services and
functions. Displays a high level of effort and commitment to
performing work; creates and maintains a strong team orientation;
operates effectively within the organizational structure; and
demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.Required
Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree or at least five
years of experience as a legal administrative assistant, paralegal,
or related experience highly preferred. Graduation from focused
paralegal course work may be sufficient for the experience
preference. -Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A thorough, working knowledge of
legal terminology and functions performed in a law office gained
through courses in paralegal training or work experience. A
thorough, working knowledge of office procedures and administrative
skills gained through formal coursework or work
experience.Knowledge of administrative rules, procedures, and
functions.Knowledge of administrative practices and
procedures.Excellent verbal communication skills. Excellent command
of proper English, spelling, punctuation, and legal terms.Excellent
interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention
to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability
to meet deadlines. Demonstrated strong analytical and
problem-solving skills. Knowledge of common office practices,
procedures, systems, and equipment.Ability to make moderately
complex decisions in accordance with established policies and
procedures.Ability to maintain administrative, fiscal, and general
office records, and to prepare reports and answer questions
pertinent to those records.Ability to compose correspondence on
relatively complex matters and to perform difficult office
management assignments without referral to a supervisor.Ability to
establish and maintain effective relationships with judicial branch
officers and staff. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at
time stressful environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality,
and to exercise discretion and good judgment.Demonstrated
proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
