attorneys to join the Economic Crimes litigating section. This
opportunity is ideal for early- to mid-career prosecutors who would
like to specialize in financial crimes or for early-to mid-career
civil or administrative law practitioners. Economic Crimes
prosecutors represent the State in a variety of criminal matters
dealing primarily with financial crimes. They prosecute cases
involving elder and dependent adult fiduciary abuse and
exploitation, securities fraud, insurance fraud, tax violations and
other offenses and general fraud and white-collar crime matters.
Economic Crimes is expanding into the prosecution of racing/gaming
crimes, multi-county organized retail thefts, and crimes involving
public officials. The Civil Division operates as a general-service
law firm for the State and its many constituent agencies. We
provide legal advice as general counsel to agencies across state
government. We represent State agencies, institutions of higher
education, and employees sued in state and federal court for
personal injuries, property damage, employment discrimination, and
more. Attorneys in the Defensive Litigation section defend the
State and its agencies in all manner of defensive civil litigation.
JOB DUTIES: A successful prosecutor will be expected to: File
felony charging documents within the framework of well-accepted
best practices for prosecutors Prepare well-written and
well-grounded motions and responses Present persuasive arguments
and evidence during the pre-trial process Conduct well-prepared and
well-executed cases at jury trial Demonstrate strong trial and
trial-preparation skills, as well as strong research and writing
skills Participate in intra-agency discussions about litigation
priorities and direction of the la REQUIREMENTS: Experience and
knowledge in any of the following areas are a plus: insurance
litigation, investment and securities offerings, taxation, drafting
wills/trusts and estate management, RICO, organized sports betting,
casino and racetrack gambling, property crimes, and financial
scams. However, the biggest asset is a will to learn and the desire
to prosecute fascinating issues and shape law in complex areas.
Incoming attorneys will receive training to help with the
transition to Economic Crimes. In addition to in- depth
subject-matter classes, training will cover the following areas:
intensive trial skills, voir dire, cross-examination, and financial
analysis and review.
