Job Summary

Under limited supervision, performs various duties for parks and recreation natural areas. Support implementation of maintenance plans for golf courses, parks grounds, and trails through various grounds-keeping activities. Support the implementation of parks initiatives by conducting assessments, diagnoses, and planning to protect and manage resources. On an on-call basis is responsible for snow removal, mowing, and other emergency duties. Ability to adjust work schedule as required. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department-specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

Applications will be rejected if the following information is not provided at the time of application:

  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certification from the Michigan Department of Agriculture in Right of Way.
  • Thoroughly documented work history
  • Valid Driver's License number
  • The application is incomplete in ANY capacity 1. Must be 18 years old
2. Have at least two (2) years of full-time work experience in all aspects of Groundskeeping including turf care, and assisting in planting, pruning, fertilizing, and spraying of flowers, trees, and shrubs.
3. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Group "A" designation. Out of Country driver's license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver's license before the hire date.

NOTE: Applicants at the time of application without the required CDL must obtain it by the end of the six-month probationary period, at the employee's expense.

4. Possess a Commercial Pesticide Applicator's Certification from the Michigan Department of
Agriculture in Right of Way.

NOTE: When assigned to Forestry/Landscape must also have one of the following categories: Forest Pest Management, Ornamental Plants & Shade Tree Pest Management. When assigned to Natural Resources must have certification in Aquatics. Certifications must be obtained by the end of the six-month probationary period, at the applicant's expense.

5. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

6. Successfully complete the six-month probationary period.
