Responsibilities: Conducts quality control (QC) in accordance with standard operating procedures, College of American Pathologists' (CAP), National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement (CLIP) established guidelines.Monitors inventory of supplies, reagents and controls allowing sufficient lead-time to obtain additional supplies prior to running out.Evaluates the validity of the patient test results in relation to the testing system, assay procedures, and any other clinical data obtained and match specimen type with request.Operates instruments and equipment in performing tests, including performing function checks, preventative maintenance, trouble shooting and system updates.Monitors the performance of all hematology testing in accordance with established standing operating procedures (SOPs). Qualifications: Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This is a drug testing position.This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.This position may require the employee to work weekends and holidays on a rotating and/or regular basis including days, nights, or evenings or split shift hours.This position may require overtime to meet unexpected staff shortages.This position is weather essential.This position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement up to 5% of the time.This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clinical laboratory test procedures in general laboratory settings; and performing analysis of body fluids and/or other substances; and operating, maintaining and/or troubleshooting equipment used in clinical laboratory testing; and conducting quality control procedures. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).OREducation: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.Selective Placement Factor: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment: This position requires a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
