A Brief Overview
Responsible for ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff through the operations of planning, design, and construction in an Integrated Healthcare System that includes a 586-bed inpatient in Topeka Kansas, and a 49-bed inpatient in Junction City, along with numerous clinics and physician office buildings. Responsibilities include management of all facilities planning, design, construction, and renovation projects. Ensure compliancy in all projects of TJC, Life Safety, OSHA, fire, electrical standards, and all other applicable codes. Work with outside contractors in securing pricing for projects completed with contract labor.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, construction or related field. Required
    Experience Qualifications
    • 10 years Experience working in the construction industry. Required
    • 5 years Management experience. Required

      • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and specifications (Required proficiency)
      • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the operation of planning, design and construction. (Required proficiency)
      • Ability to work computer programs such as CAD, Bluebeam Revu, Excel, Word, and Gant Project. (Preferred proficiency)
        What you will do
        • Strategic Planning: A director of Design and Construction should have a strong ability to develop strategic plans for design and construction projects. This includes the ability to conduct through assessments of project requirements, develop budgets and timelines, and identify key stakeholders.
        • Project Management: The Director of Design and Construction should have strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and maintain project budgets and timelines. They should also be able to coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in the project.
        • Design and Technical: The Director of Design and Construction should possess a deep understanding of design and construction processes, as well as technical knowledge of construction materials and building codes. The Director utilizes their knowledge to analyze architectural and engineering plans and ensure that all designs comply with local and state regulations.
        • Team Leadership: The Director of Design and Construction should be a skilled leader who can inspire, motivate, and guide their team to meet project goals. They should also be able to identify and address team performance issues, and provide constructive feedback to team members. The Director is responsible for carrying out all administrative and personnel functions within the department.
        • Communication: The Director of Design and Construction should be an effective communicator who can clearly convey project requirements, timelines, and budget constraints to stakeholders. The Director utilizes their skills when negotiating contracts, communicating project scope changes, and managing stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
        • Risk Management: The Director of Design and Construction should have a strong ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with design and construction projects. The Director is responsible for their team conducting risk assessments, developing risk management plans, and implementing measures to reduce the likelihood of project delays or cost overruns. The Director approves all Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM).

        • Conducting menial research tasks that could be delegated to support staff or interns.
        • Conducting routine site visits that do not require the Director's expertise or decision-making abilities.

          • 10% Onsite presence will be required on an interment basis to view progress of projects.
